A healthy and fit lifestyle begins with a finding a balance between eating highly nutritious food and making exercise a part of your daily life. If you’ve started your exercise routine but are lost about where to start with eating healthier, don’t fret. Good food doesn’t mean spending excessively in the supermarket for fancy, organic food.
- Cook at home.
Forget those specialized food delivery services that cost a fortune. Start getting to know your kitchen by cooking more at home. It’s a cheaper alternative to eating out, and you’ll have more control over the food that goes on your plate. You can control the amount of sugar, salt, and preservatives in your food, and you’ll even get to impress friends and loved ones with your burgeoning culinary prowess.
- Eat more fresh veggies and fruits.
Processed food, food in restaurants, and packaged dishes cost more than fresh fruits and vegetables. Eliminate these unhealthy choices and pick fruits and vegetables in season. These are usually cheaper and more nutrient-dense, giving your body much needed vitamins and minerals without the added sugar, salt, and preservatives.

- Skip the designer coffee.
There are claims and studies that show caffeine’s health benefits, but a coffee habit can be a budget buster if you go for a designer coffee brand. Satisfy your coffee cravings without breaking your budget by brewing your own cup at home. This way, you’ll also be able to monitor the amount of sugar and dairy that go into your daily cup, helping you to limit those calories that unknowingly pile up when you order that fancy-sounding frappe from the neighborhood coffee shop.
- Drink more water.
This health tip is something that many of us take for granted. Drinking more water is the best way to improve your health, as it helps your body detoxify. It also helps in weight loss, eliminates wastes from your liver and kidney, fills you up, curbs your hunger and cravings, and flushes out toxins from your body.
- Save those scraps.
Your fruit and vegetables can go a long way by saving those scraps like cut outs, peels, and ends of onions, celery, broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, herbs, etc. These scraps are perfect for making broth. Store bought broth is high in salt and preservatives, so making your own are not only cost effective, it’s also a much healthier alternative. Simply freeze the parts you won’t use, and when you’ve collected enough pieces, dump them all into a big pot, pour some water, and let boil. Season sparingly. You can use this broth for soups, stews, pasta sauces, and gravy.
